While Black Panther movie continues its lap of glory, with the revelation that it’s now earned over $500 million at the US box office, the movie has just received another form of validation. This time, the praise comes from Christopher Nolan who, after bringing home three Oscars for Dunkirk last weekend, has predicted great things for the Marvel hit at next year’s ceremony.
As Deadline reports, the acclaimed filmmaker thinks that Black Panther will be picking up the award for best picture when the awards hit in 2019, which would make it the first ever film adaptation of a comic to win the prestigious Academy Award.
According to the publication’s sources, this won’t be the only unlikely Oscar entry next year, with Mary Poppins Returns also aiming for the big prize. Another Disney creation, the movie is from Chicago director Rob Marshall and will see Emily Blunt in the leading role. Released 25 years ago, the original movie brought home no fewer than five Oscars. In any case, it looks like things are about to be shaken up for the 91st ceremony – and it’s about time.
