1 Nigerian Arrested Over Alleged Credit Card Fraud

A suspected internet fraudster has been placed under investigation in Uganda for allegedly using a stolen credit card to purchase a flight ticket.

The airport officials said Muhammad Nura Umar used a “network of accomplices” for the fraud.

The suspect was arrested over allegedly using a stolen credit card details to purchase a Rwandair flight ticket from Entebber International Airport to Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Muhammad Nura Umar was believed to be a graduate student of Stafford University where he obtain his bachelors degree in Computer Science and Information Technology.

Muhammad, 23, of Kebbi, Nigeria, was arrested March. 1 over allegedly using a credit card to purchase a flight ticket. Muhammad was arrested by Uganda Police at Entebbe International  Airport as he was about to board a Rwandair  Airways flight bound for Lagos, Nigeria.

Muhammad was charged with conspiracy, and mail fraud, and extortion. If convicted of all offenses, he faces a maximum prison sentence of 5 years, a fine of $5,000 on each of the counts of the indictment, and two years of supervised release. A trial date will be set after extradition proceedings have been completed, which could take several months.

The suspect was arrested and detained by Uganda Police and will be prosecuted to face the law as soon as he was convicted and pleaded guilty.

An indictment is a formal charge against a defendant that is comprised of the essential facts constituting the offense charged. Under the law, a defendant is presumed to be innocent of a charge until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt to the satisfaction of a jury.
