The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) will not be organizing ceremonial parades for out-going 2019 Batch B, Stream 1 corps members due to the COVID-19 pandemic it was announced on Monday.

The scheme rather will issue certificates of national service (CNS) at local government councils across the federation on Thursday 28th May, 2020.

The NYSC in a statement, issued on Monday by its director of public relations, Adenike Adeyemi, said the ceremonial parades were cancelled in a bid to adhere to Nigeria Center for Disease Control, NCDC, directives for social and physical distancing to contain the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.

NYSC noted that those who are not in their state of service should remain where they are till the end of the interstate travel ban, as their certificate will be collected after the cancellation of the ban.

She also said that unclaimed certificates will be sent to the national secretariat in Abuja after two weeks of the cancellation of the interstate travel ban.

The statement read in part “The passing out for the 2019 Batch B Stream 1 Corps Members has been slated nationwide for Thursday 28th, May 2020.

“Accordingly, a full complement of NYSC officers have been mobilised for the distribution; and shall do so from ten service points in each local government councils.

“As a precautionary measure, the distribution shall be staggered for a period of ten days in the first instance, in order to remove anxiety from the concerned corp members, in addition to making the activity seamless and less cumbersome.

“It is imperative to state that corp members who at present are not in their states of service need not violate the ban on inter-state journeys which is still in force.

“However, as soon as the ban is lifted and it is safe to travel, they are expected to go to their respective states of services to collect their certificate of national service (CNS).

“Kindly note that unclaimed certificates shall be returned to the NYSC national directorate headquarters, Abuja two weeks after the lifting of the inter-state ban.”
