A young couple’s couple’s sex acts are witnessed by a young man through a hole in the wall. When the wife seduces him, they engage in an illicit affair. Chaos ensues when the husband learns about them.
The probable motive in making each of the films in the so called Scorpio Nights franchise has determined the final product to some extent.
For the 1985 original film, Peque Gallaga and his creative team saw an opportunity to make a substantial film out of the then newly employed freedom for more mature content resulting to a now hailed classic of the sexy/bomba genre.
The sequel/remake helmed by Erik Matti, who came from the Peque Gallaga thought/ inspired batch of filmmakers, was not as good as the original but you can see a budding potential from the director’s debut effort. You can somehow see that there was an attempt to flip everything up and really do it differently.
But with Scorpio Nights 3, I find it hard to sense any motive greater than that of commercial or for profits sake hence an output that feels like sub-mediocre at best. There was no unique turn from the original. Its disappointing coming from Law Fajardo who gave us the indie gem, AMOK. Christine Bermas is a little bright spot in this movie though (the single star is for her). Her daring participation would have mattered more if only the film had something meaningful to offer.
I guess you can find some enjoyment watching this if you like movies with shock value. But overall, as a fan of the original, I am disappointed
Bakit ba ko nanonood pa ng mga produkto ng Vivamax kung lagi lang itong nagleleave ng bad taste sa akin. Hahaha.
For context, yes I love bomba films and the 90s-early 2000s gen of bomba ang isa sa mga dahilan kung bakit ako nahumaling sa indie / PH in general.
Gallaga’s, the original version? Chef’s kiss. I could enumerate why I love it so much even without talking about the steamy scenes there. Matti’s? I didn’t really like it that much as well, pero dahil may fixation ako kay Albert Martinez when I was younger forgivable siya sa’kin (that CR scene? iconic).
But this? Poorly made. Parang pinaghalong 1 and 2 lang, no authenticity at all. Walang chemistry ang tatlong bida. Walang komentaryo tungkol sa lipunan. Kung bakit nagtthrive ang industriya kung saan katawan ang commodity. At ang writing? My goodness. Parang gawang high school na hindi pinroofread ng teacher. Chaka ng batuhan, chaka ng lines, in general.
