Is Olamide Still The King Of Rap In Nigeria?
Arguably, Olamide Adedeji whose stage name is popularly known a Baddosneh is one of the most versatile Nigerian musicians in the musical industry. The rap game isn’t an easy one and that makes it difficult to find an unchanging game player.
The rap royalty transitioned into a pop star greatness and it is fair to say, he made the right move. Olamide started off as a rapper, his official music debut “Eni Duro” was a monster hit welding his claims to be the next kid on the block after Dagrin’s demise. At first, his style was zoned as ‘local’ or ‘too street’, but coming up shortly, we unconsciously sought a rapper to fill into that indigenous hole, so we loved the rap part to Olamide, we embraced it and we identified with him. He played on as a consistent rapper both on his single and collabos before the evolution began.
Olamide has recorded up to Nine albums, starting from ‘Rapsodi’ to ‘Carpe Diem’, the music contents of each album shows the obvious alteration in his rap music. The music star once sent a clear message to his fans on ‘Local Rappers’. On the track he got featured by Reminisce alongside Phyno where he said ‘street ti take over punchline o jawo mo’ which obviously clears the confusing air of his switch.
Truth to be told, Olamide has given rise to the fame of so many artistes in the industry today. Not just singers, but rappers before and ever since the inception of his record label YBNL. Some of these artistes are Phyno, Lil kesh, CDQ, Chinko Ekun, Davolee, Skuki, Dj Enimoney, Ycee, Adekunle Gold, and so many others and that proves his switch really had little or no effect on his music.
Although, some die-hard fans who were in love with his punchlines in the old days lost the appetite for his rap but had no choice than to embrace his pop style. M.I Abaga’s stirring single, ‘You rappers should fix up your lives’ dispersed a solid note to Nigerian rappers and Olamide was not left out. The rapper on his single Sees himself as a Messiah who laid the platform for young artists to venture into Hip Hop Music In Nigeria. He clearly said ‘None of you rappers is real enough, once you blow up now you switching up, that’s why these fans are not feeling you’.
Olamide came back to the rap game in ‘Bugle’ with a very unfriendly pace. “Bugle“ is a track that reminds us just how strong a rapper can be. He alternated from English to Yoruba frequently on the track and for that we are really impressed. Olamide is forever a good rapper, Olamide is a rare gem in the Nigerian music industry, and his authenticity sets him apart from the rest of his counterparts.
Whats more his previous project album/Ep, ‘CARPE DIEM‘ a 12 tracklist project its a hit and back to back the singer has been doing wonderfully well.
