Kunle Afolayan was born on the 30th of September 1974 in Ebutemetta, Lagos, Nigeria to late Adeyemi Josiah Afolayan, who was also a popular Nollywood theatre and film director, and producer. Adeyemi Afolayan (also known as Ade Love) was a Nigerian film actor, director and producer. He is the brother of actress Toyin Afolayan as well as father to film actors, Kunle Afolayan, Tayo Afolayan, Gabriel Afolayan, Moji Afolayan and Aremu Afolayan.

In 1966, Afolayan joined Moses Olaiya’s drama troupe, in 1971, he left to establish his own drama group which went on to stage comedic plays.

The 42-year-old Kunle Afolayan has been married for many years to a beautiful woman named Tolulope Afolayan. Together, they have four kids: two of them are girls (Darasimi and Eyiyemi) and two are boys (Darimisire and Diekoloreoluwa).

They live in a beautiful house in Magodo. As for his religious views, he does not identify with any existing religion and considers himself a free thinker.

2011, Kunle and Zeb Ejiro represented Nigeria Movie Industry (Nollywood) at the Subversive Film festival, where they received Nollywood Global Award as the number two largest movie industry in World ranking in 2009.

A strong anti-pirate, who believes that a hard working and successful individual should reap the fruit of his labour. He demonstrated this in 2015 when he posted in tweet accusing the Ibos as the dominant copy rights hubs in Nigeria.

This comment did not go down well with Kunle who had to apologize especially to the Ibos who saw it as unfounded accusation. He defended this by saying he was only trying to guide against piracy which was a major problem in the Nigerian entertainment industry.
