Meet Maryam (A.K.A Alhanislam)

Maryam Bukar Hassan, a.k.a Alhanislam, is a poet and an exponent of the spoken word, who has performed at major festivals and events including the Ake Arts and Book Festival and the Kaduna Book and Arts Festival. Over the years, her work has received critical acclaim, and she recently released her album titled “IN THE HEART OF SILENCE”, which contains one of the poems she delivered at the 2017 Ake Arts and Book Festival.

As the founder of Deen-at-Heart, an organization that focuses on the moral re-engineering of the youth, she is a renowned motivational speaker, and also an active core member of the creative clan. She is the pioneer of the Deen-at-Heart foundation, under which She runs a counselling platform known as “THE HELPLINE” that offers support and counseling to young people in real time and also “THE REVERT PACKAGE” that is responsible for educating and providing basics for reverts. 

Meet Maryam Biography

Maryam Bukar Hassan was born on 25th December 1996, and is an indigene of Borno state, but was born and bred in Kaduna state. She is an ICT graduate from Radford University College, graduating at 19 with a second class upper degree and now looking forward to her masters. At 17 she was the vice president Foreign Students Association Ghana (FSA) at national level, as well as the Student-Senate clerk at national level, where she got an award of merit for outstanding leadership. She was also the vice president of Kaduna State Students Association, Accra, Ghana branch; and was the secretary general of SFAN (Stars from all Nations) in Accra Ghana. 

She is an active member of YALI (Young African Leaders Initiative) and a holder of 8 certificates awarded by YALI. She has had talks on radio and television stations, and has delivered talks in universities including Synergies University, Ghana and Radford University College, to mention a few. She is an activist on violence against women and children, especially child rape and has gained vast recognition for this after the release of her video on domestic violence, titled: ‘VIOLENCE HAS NO RELIGION’, which hit about 20,000 views on instagram and over 3.2million views on YouTube.

Her famous poetry performance on “Sir Labo Yari” at KABAFEST caught the attention of His Excellency Mallam Nasir Elrufai, leading her to perform at the launch of the Yasmin Elrufai Literacy Foundation for Girls and women. Maryam Alhanislam
