‘AMASHUMI’ is the incredible new single from Khayelitsha, Cape Town based rapper HOLY ALPHA.

Seen by many as the up and coming star of SOUTH AFRICAN HIP HOP this deep, hard-hitting single showcases her skills further. “Mama Ghost” as she goes by on the streets lives up to her title with her experience filled lyrics and Xhosa storytelling techniques.

The single further demonstrates the “Drill” culture sweeping the world and beauty of the Xhosa language which sounds powerful on the hard hitting 808’s. Will Holy Alpha become the South African Drill Queen ” in 2021? It’s very rare to come across an artist who can create tracks with minimal English in the lyrics but still give the audience a feel and desire to listen and work out the meaning of the lyrics. Mostly she speaks of society and the everyday life of a South African youth who does not have the opportunity to express themselves away from music.

Having recently joined forces with the man behind CTT Beats, Mark Insley, after being introduced by a mutual contact, there are plans for further collaborations. Produced and mastered in the Mother City by CTT Beats in conjunction with the team’s key producer Takura Moyo a.k.a ‘Beatsmith’, this is sure to be a local favourite with its infectious lyrics. Mark, also a director of ‘Cape Town Thing’ built this platform to help provide South African artists with a platform and resources to push their sound, fusing UK influenced sound with their unique African styles.
