NANS: Fulfil your promise to deceased FUOYE students’ families

They told the governor to accelerate the job opportunities he had promised two members of families of the deceased students.

Two students — Joseph Okonofua and Kehinde Dada — were shot dead, while others sustained injuries and were hospitalised during the students’ protest which coincided with the visit of the wife of the governor, Mrs. Bisi Fayemi, to Oye Ekiti.

The NANS leaders, in a communiqué after the NANS Senate meeting in Ado Ekiti on Monday, said they believed that neither the governor nor his wife knew anything about the death of the students.

Consequently, NANS said it had lifted the persona non grata order placed on the governor and his wife across all the tertiary institutions in the country, describing the role the duo played in ensuring proper burial for the departed students as “outstanding.”

They stated in the communiqué, “Ekiti State Government has taken the responsibilities of paying the hospital bills of all injured students and for the burial arrangement of the deceased.

“The government also visited the families of the deceased and compensated them, while processing the employment opportunity of two members of the bereaved families.

“We realised that it is time to move on and allow the sleeping dog to lie in the interest of peace and love among all those that were involved,” the NANS leaders stated.

The students, however, lamented the death of a student leader, Yemi Adeniran, in a motor accident, saying, “The deceased did well as a member of the Student Union Government during his lifetime.”
