Factory set on fire during the violent riots
Previously, violent riots broke out in South Africa following the arrest of the former president, Jacob Zuma. The riots are characterized with violent attacks, looting and destruction of property.
The current president of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa during a speech addressing the nation as regards the riots stated that the riots were pre-planned. “This is deadly unrest designed to ‘destroy democracy’ “, he says.
Some of the white settlers were seen shooting at the rioters with their hunting guns to defend themselves from being attacked.
The South African Police has been deployed heavily to assess the situation. About 72 people have been killed in this escapade, either shot or crushed to death, while many others injured.
The violence has calmed down and people are now struggling to clean up, and food scarcity has become an issue since most of the items were looted.
Meanwhile, Zuma’s lawyers have released a statement that they’re applying for bail to have him released on bond.
There is still a belief that that the rest is caused by large social differences, unemployment and racism that are largely practiced in South Africa. Could this be true.
