FINAL: Morocco 1-0 Portugal

IT’S OVER! MOROCCO MAKE HISTORY! They become the first African nation to reach the World Cup semifinals! Where three others fell apart late, Morocco stand tall!

Portugal had a number of chances late, but just could not get through past the Herculean effort from the Moroccan defense. It’s glory for Morocco, and heartbreak for Portugal. Cristiano Ronaldo is shown heading straight down the tunnel in tears, unable to hold his emotion together.

Morocco vs Portugal: 2nd Half

90+7 min: Chance, Portugal! PEPE MISSES! He out-jumps Attiyat Allah and gets his head to a cross from Rafael Leao, but he hits it wide! It’s a glorious chance to level the score right on the doorstep, but he can’t get it on frame! What a chance, what a missed opportunity!

90+6 min: Chance, Morocco! Portugal have thrown numbers forward and understandably left themselves exposed at the back, but Diogo Costa comes up huge! The substitute Zakaria Aboukhlal is through on goal one-on-one, but he can’t get by Costa who comes off his line! This game is end-to-end!

90+3 min: RED CARD! Two bookings in a minute for substitute striker Walid Cheddira who trips Joao Felix, and Morocco are down to 10 men! It’s just the second red card of this entire World Cup, and now the African nation will have to defend a man down for the final six minutes of added time!

90+1 min: Chance, Portugal! CRISTIANO RONALDO DENIED! The Portugal frontman rifles a shot on frame, but it’s right at Yassine Bounou and the Moroccan goalkeeper makes no mistake down low at his near post. That’s a poor effort from Ronaldo with a chance to level the score! Will it be his last action at a World Cup?

Walid Cheddira gets a yellow card for hacking down Pepe. There’s eight minutes of added time.

87th min: Portugal are in panic mode now, sending crosses into the penalty area en masse. They’re not the tamest of deliveries! This will be some finish, with Portugal pouring on the pressure.

Vitinha scythes down Azzedine Ounahi and earns a yellow card. Portugal players are in the official’s ear as Morocco take their time getting back to play. The frustration is bubbling up.
