With a career that has spanned over three decades, Okoli has not only graced the screen with his commanding presence but also shaped the industry with his contributions behind the scenes.

Born in Ogboji, Anambra State, Nigeria, Obi Okoli’s journey into the arts began with his education in Theatre Arts at the prestigious University of Ibadan, where he graduated with honors in 1979. His passion for storytelling and drama led him to the Colorado Film School in Denver, Colorado, USA, further honing his skills for a career that would leave a lasting impact on Nollywood².

Okoli’s foray into the world of acting began with the Nollywood production of Chinua Achebe’s “Things Fall Apart” in 1985, where he starred alongside Pete Edochie and others³. Since then, he has featured in numerous films, including “The Trip,” “King of Kings,” “Venom,” “Not Alone,” “Idejimba,” “My Father’s Love,” and “Royal Deceit,” to name a few⁴. His roles often portray him as a king or nobleman, a testament to his regal demeanor and acting prowess.

Beyond acting, Okoli is also a respected filmmaker, director, and writer. He has been a lecturer in Film at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), imparting his knowledge to the next generation of filmmakers. His dedication to the craft extends to his work as a broadcaster and producer for the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) Aba, where he produced and directed TV drama and documentary programs from 1981 to 1999.

Obi Okoli’s personal life is as rich as his professional one. He is happily married to Ajie, and together they have celebrated over 30 years of marriage, a union blessed with children and grandchildren¹. His first child, Adaobi, was born in 1987, and he has since enjoyed the growth of his family, which he often shares with his fans through throwback family photos
