Uganda's COVID-19 cases exceed 700

KAMPALA – The confirmed COVID-19 cases in Uganda have shot to 705. According to a press release update from the Ministry of Health, nine new cases were confirmed from 2677 samples tested on June 14.

Four of the new cases are from entry points where 1, 813 samples were taken. The other five were from points of alert where 864 were taken from suspects and contacts.

In addition, 37 foreign truck drivers who tested positive were handed back to their respective country of origin. 32 of them were Kenyans, three South Sudanese, one Tanzanian, and one Eritrean. Two of them entered the country through Elegu from South Sudan. The other two came through Malaba in Eastern Uganda.

The release stresses how to date Uganda has not registered any COVID-19 death.

Following the partial lifting of the Lockdown effected in March, hotels have been allowed to operate under a strict measure from the Ministry of Health. Clients sit two per table. This is in addition to being subjected to temperature taking at the entry and sanitizing their hands.

Public means of transport have also commenced plying different routes but passengers are loaded at a 50 percent capacity of what a vehicle is supposed to carry. The passengers have to sanitize their palms before entry and the conductors are supposed to disinfect the cars upon offloading the passengers.

Masks are worn by the passengers and the operators. Meanwhile, bodabodas are only allowed to carry goods from markets to residential homes.

The curfew that was imposed by the government still stands. Movements are accepted from 6:30am to 7:00pm.
