Following news making round on the social media that some Corps Members are seeing the inscription ‘COVID-19’ as their April Clearance Status, the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has made clarification on the reason for the indication.

This was disclosed on the scheme’s official Facebook page (NYSC Info) on Wednesday.

The report reads apart;

“The reason for this is because the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) is finding the best way to effectively manage its programme during this perilous time.

“In a clear term, NYSC is likely to place on hold some Corps Members’ service year, especially those in Batch ‘A’ 2020 Stream 1 and non medical corps members.”

The report stated further; “It is worthy to note that contrary to everyone’s expectation, COVID-19 is getting worse in Nigeria on a daily basis. More new cases are reported, and it is just increasing geometrically.

“Since no one knows when COVID-19 will end in Nigeria, NYSC might place IRS program on hold. If not, 2020 Batch A Stream 1 Corps Members will spend their entire service year at home and get paid as well. NYSC will stop paying Corps Members allowance if its programme is place on hold until COVID-19 is over and everything starts normally.”

Meanwhile, Director-General, Brigadier-General Shuaibu Ibrahim, in a statement by the Director of Public Affairs, Mrs. Adenike Adeyemi appealed to corps members to remain calm as the allowances will be paid soon.

Adeyemi said that the absence of monthly clearance exercise will not hinder the payment of allowances.

“As we earnestly look up to the Almighty God for help, management wishes to reassure all corps members once more that allowances for the months of March and April shall be paid to everyone, without recourse to the monthly clearance exercise.

“You are all enjoined to stay calm, stay safe, observe safety precautions given from time to time by the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) and always stay tuned to our traditional and new media platforms,” he said.
