BREAKING: Bobrisky has been sentenced to six months in jail with no option of a fine

Cross-dresser Idris Okuneye, widely known as Bobrisky, has been sentenced to six months in jail by Justice Abimbola Awogboro of the Federal High Court in Lagos. The ruling, delivered on Friday morning, April 12th, carries no option of a fine.

The judgement follows the arraignment of Bobrisky by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on April 5th, on charges including Abuse of the Naira and Money Laundering. While the court dismissed the money laundering allegations, Bobrisky was convicted of Naira Abuse after confessing to the offense.

Subsequently, the court ordered his remand in EFCC detention in Lagos pending sentencing. Initially scheduled for April 9th, the hearing for judgement was postponed due to the Eid-Fitri public holiday from April 9th to April 11th.

The case has drawn significant attention, reflecting broader societal debates surrounding gender identity and legal accountability. Bobrisky’s sentencing underscores the legal repercussions individuals may face for violating financial regulations, irrespective of their public persona.

With this development, Bobrisky becomes the focal point in ongoing discussions regarding the intersection of fame, crime, and justice within Nigeria’s legal system.
